the Kp index is a measure of global geomagnetic activity. it ranges from 0 to 9, where 0 is very quiet (low chance of aurora) and 9 is a severe geomagnetic storm (high chance of visible aurora even at low latitudes). Aurly displays the forecasted Kp for the next 3 hours, 24 hours, and several days.

Aurly aggregates data from several scientific and governmental sources, including NOAA's Space Weather Prediction Center (SWPC), NASA, and global magnetometers. We process this data to provide an easy-to-read, localized forecast.

Different apps may use different models (e.g., predicted vs. observed Kp) or slightly different data sources. Aurly aims to use the most timely and reliable global models, which may result in minor variations.

1. allow Aurly to access your device's location
2. go to the 'Alerts' section of the app
3. set your desired Kp index threshold (e.g., Kp 4 or higher)
4. ensure push notifications are enabled for Aurly in your device settings
5. you will receive an instant alert when the forecasted Kp index meets your criteria for visibility at your location.
